Saturday Travels

Today the girls and I are off to visit Christy!  It’s been over two years since their family packed up and relocated to Green Bay. During that time we also moved, our kids have all grown tremendously and there have been lots of other happenings, some good, some not.  The company Christy’s husband works for flew them back out to Washington on Thursday for a picnic and they don’t fly home again until Sunday.

We’ve not been back to the Tacoma area since moving and the girls are excited to see old friends and they want to drive by our old house.  The friends part sounds nice, but driving in the area leaves much to be desired.

Friday my parents stopped by and surprised us with some anniversary flowers and a card.

The girls and I spent most of the day indoors to avoid the heat.  I played with some yarn, but will most likely frog this back again.  It just doesn’t “work”.

I’ve come to the conclusion that no matter now much I love the color and feel of this yarn that it’s just too thick to make a sweater with.  Let me re-phrase that, I can make a sweater, but the bulky nature of the yarn means that said garment will never be flattering. Perhaps a baby blanket or throw is a better choice. Maybe one of the girls can frog this during the drive.

Some new yarn arrived yesterday too. This is Scout’s Almost Glam colorway. I adore greens and blues! I may wind this up and bring it with me so I have something to work on this evening while the girls swim. I reserved a hotel with an indoor pool and they’re thrilled at the prospect.

Time to go shower and pack up. It’s amazing how much stuff is needed for one overnight trip. Happy Saturday!

Have a wonderful time!!!! The blue? Frog it and save it for a heavy winter jacket sweater. Sounds perfect.

  2. Yay! Finally it got RIGHT TO YOU!

  3. Hope you had fun visiting with Christy and that your travels were “uneventful”! Maybe you could make a lumpy sweater with the blue and just wear it around the house. It’s so pretty and soft, it deserves to be something for you. Maybe a cardigan?
    Love, K

Drive safely and have a wonderful visit!

  5. Hi heidi from chillsider, good to hear from you, especially to read the verb”to frog” which is not used over here, I think.
However I have recently read some of monica ferris’ “needlework mysteries” so I could decode it successfully.
Re raining snakes, – george orwell was staying at a sanitorium on the south coast and finding adders in the garden, not a usual happening in this country where there is little to bite you, so we get excited.
His diaries are being blogged daily at

  6. Sorry heidE – that’s why i don’t manage to follow knitting patterns successfully, too careless of details

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! I agree with Karen. A cardigan to wear around the house. What is the guage on it?
